A New Beginning - Chapter 2

Be sure you work on the questions on the Chapter 1 Test, Form C. If you lost the paper, you can download it by going to the 7-8 math page on the W****Net.

I have corrected your quizzes and will return them to you tomorrow.

If you need to review set-builder notation, and many of you do, try this site.

Homework
  1. Read Chapter 2, Lesson 2-1.
  2. Answer the questions in Covering the Ideas.

m.a.d.

This one can be tricky. Be sure you know where the "mean" function is...it's on 2nd Stat under "MATH". This is a real time-saver. No one in eighth grade needs to be doing a pencil-and-paper calculation of mean. You do however need to be able to explain how to calculate mean using paper and pencil.

Homework

Covering the Ideas in Lesson 1-7. Time yourself on the calculator part, not the reading. I'll collect the data tomorrow

Absolute Value and Distance

As long as you have completed all of Lesson 1-5, you only have to answer the Covering the Ideas questions in Lesson 1-6.

Thursday, September 17, 2009

More Calculator Skills

Keep working with your calculator. Finish all the questions, except Exploration in Lesson 1-5.

Calculator Skills

Tonight's homework may be very easy for some, a refresher to most, and important to understand because you will be using all of the skills learned in the activities on Friday.

Study for your quiz. This will be your second grade this year. There are eight questions and no calculator is needed or allowed. You better be sure you know the names of the properties.

I am enjoying reading them. They will be on the bulletin board so your parents can see them tomorrow night.

Homework
  1. Finish reading Lesson 1-3.
  2. Complete the guided example in your Math Journal. You need to write the simplified values so that you can compare the results in both tables.
  3. Answer all questions in Covering the Ideas.

Due on Monday

You must pass the Facebook page in with the rubric by 4:00PM (when I leave). I will correct them Monday night. They are going up on the bulletin board on Tuesday.

You also need to finish Applying in Lesson 1-2.

I answered many of your comments in Thursday's comments.

In Case You Missed the Homework...

Sorry about the rush at the end of class but I had to call carpool for Lower School. Some of you need to email me so you can be invited to join the blog. This is best done ASAP since you will be receiving a grade for blog participation.

Homework
  1. Read Lesson 1-2. You can always ask questions on the blog.
  2. Complete Covering the Ideas and Review, pp. 16-18. There is not a large amount of work to show in Covering the Ideas. In the Review, only questions 16-18 require work to be shown.
  3. Remember that you have a quiz on Lessons 1.1-1.3 on Tuesday.
  4. Have you started your Facebook page yet?

Did You Receive an Invitation?

You have to set up a google account to sign on to the blog unless the process changed recently. You need to be able to sign on to the blog to post and comment. Explain this to your parents. Do not use your own name. Look at last year's blog to see what the kids used. Please do not "post" yet. You may comment though. I will explain more when I have you in class.

Yes, you are in Honors Algebra 1. Equate Honors with challenging.

Welcome to an Exciting New School Year!

I am very excited to have you in Honors Algebra. You will work hard but you will learn so much.

Algebra 1 is a very important subject. Many people think algebra is boring and has no real use. They are wrong; math class this year will be very interesting. As long as homework is completed when assigned, you all show up for class with all of your tools and materials, and questions are asked immediately, algebra should be a great experience.

This blog is a place for you to talk to me and your classmates. You will find your homework posted here. You can ask questions, answer your classmates' and my questions, and write about anything math related that you want to share. In case you or I miss class, this is a good place to keep in close contact. You will find links to assignments here as well.

See you in room 409!.
