Exponents

So far, you should understand three properties of exponents. The LAX girls missed the third property but it is easy to understand if you got the first property.

Mandie, Miss Tan, and Goldielocks: Look at this website. It will help you understand more complicated factoring.

Homework: Finish up 8.2 and try out the Covering the Ideas in 8-3. I am impressed with how quickly you are moving.

  1. I understand 8-3, but I am confused about the first few questions in applying... I know they weren't for homework but I looked at them and have no idea how to solve them and why I dont understand.

  2. # 13. The numerator is a power of 4 and the denominator is a power of 2. That means you have two powers. You need to use properties to simplify the expression so that you have a single power. Remember how we wrote 4 as "2 squared"? Try that and see if you understand.
    # 14. Hint. Rewrite 16.
